EV charger installation in Cape Town
Chargers for Cape Town apartments, homes and businesses, with the City's supply and solar applications handled for you.
Cape Town EV charging, from basements to driveways
Cape Town’s EV owners are spread across very different property types. On the Atlantic Seaboard and in the City Bowl, many live in apartment blocks with shared basement parking. In the Southern Suburbs and northern suburbs, it’s more often a freestanding home or a townhouse complex. Our approach changes with each.
Our Cape Town team [based in [Suburb]] handles site assessments, supply, installation, commissioning and the Certificate of Compliance.
Apartments and sectional title blocks
In Sea Point, Green Point, Tamboerskloof and Camps Bay, a charger usually means working with a body corporate. The building’s supply is shared, the cable route runs across common property, and the trustees will want to know who pays for the electricity.
We help residents and trustees work through it:
- A load assessment of the building’s supply.
- A cable backbone that serves future bays, so the second and third owners pay less.
- Separate metering for each bay, so charging costs land with the right owner.
- An approval pack for the trustees.
See EV charging in a complex if you’re a resident, or body corporates and HOAs if you’re a trustee.
Working with the City of Cape Town
We haven’t found a City requirement specific to installing a private EV charger. A charger on its own needs a dedicated circuit and a CoC.
Where the City is your supplier, supply upgrades (for example to three-phase) and solar applications are made through the City’s e-Services, with the electrical contractor’s details (City of Cape Town). Some areas of the metro are supplied directly by Eskom, which has its own process.
Solar plus EV: use the approved list
Cape Town has plenty of rooftop solar, and many owners want to charge their car from it. The City publishes a list of approved inverters, and inverters that aren’t on it won’t be authorised (City of Cape Town SSEG FAQ). We specify listed equipment from the start, so your system can be registered. More on solar and EV registration and our energy resilience solution.
Wind, rain and salt air
Between the south-easter and winter fronts, outdoor chargers in Cape Town take a beating, and seafront suburbs add salt air. For exposed bays, we recommend chargers with a suitable IP rating, sealed cable entries and corrosion-resistant fixings. Compare options in our home and wallbox chargers range.
Businesses and office parks

What's different about installing in Cape Town
City applications via e-Services
In City of Cape Town supply areas, supply upgrades and solar (SSEG) applications go through the City's e-Services, with the electrical contractor's details. We complete them for you.
Dense sectional title living
Along the Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl, many EV owners live in sectional title blocks with basement parking, where body corporate approval and metering come first.
Approved inverters only
Adding solar? The City publishes a list of approved inverters and won't authorise ones that aren't on it. We specify listed equipment from the start.
Our process
How it works
One team from first enquiry to a working, certified charger. You always know what happens next.
- 1

A written, itemised quote: charger, installation, any upgrades and the CoC. No surprises later.
- 4
Installation
Registered electricians install a dedicated, protected circuit and mount the charger neatly.
- 5
Commissioning & handover
We configure the charger, test it with you, hand over the CoC and show you how to use it.
Do I need the City's approval to install an EV charger?
We haven't found a City of Cape Town requirement specific to private EV chargers. The charger circuit needs a CoC. If you need a supply upgrade, or you're adding solar, applications go through the City's e-Services, and we handle them.
I live in a Sea Point apartment block. Can I get a charger?
Usually, yes, with your body corporate's approval. We assess the building's supply and parking, prepare an approval pack for the trustees, and propose a metering method so you pay for your own charging.
Can I charge my EV from my solar system?
Yes, with the right setup. Grid-tied solar in Cape Town needs to be applied for through the City, using an inverter on the City's approved list. A solar-aware charger then uses surplus generation for the car.
Do you cover the northern suburbs and Winelands?
We cover the northern suburbs, including Durbanville, Bellville and Century City. [Confirm whether Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West are in the service area.]
