Overview

The [Brand] [Model] 60 kW DC is a fast charger for sites where vehicles cannot wait hours. Unlike an AC wallbox, it converts power to DC inside the unit and feeds the battery directly, so a compatible car can gain meaningful range during a short stop.

It suits fleet depots with quick turnarounds between shifts, dealerships that need to charge stock and workshop vehicles, and forecourts or shopping centres offering public and destination charging. At 60 kW it sits in the practical middle: fast enough for most passenger EVs and light commercial vehicles, without the very large supply that higher-power units demand. It is also a sensible size for sites that want to start with one DC unit and add more as demand grows.

If vehicles stay parked overnight or for a full working day, commercial AC chargers are usually better value. Compare the rest of the range under DC fast chargers.

Installation

DC projects start with the supply. During the site assessment we look at the transformer and main switchboard, the spare capacity, and the distance to the charging bays. If an upgrade or new connection is needed, we prepare the application to Eskom or the municipality and give you a realistic programme.

The installation itself usually involves a concrete plinth, trenching or cable trays for a heavy supply cable, a dedicated protection panel, bollards to protect the unit, and network connectivity. Good signage and bay markings matter too, so that petrol cars don’t block the charger. A registered electrician tests the installation and issues a Certificate of Compliance, and we commission the charger on your chosen platform. See our installation service for how we manage larger projects.

Using it day to day

Drivers start a session with a card, app or QR code and follow the prompts on the screen. Operators monitor uptime, faults and revenue remotely, and most issues can be diagnosed without a site visit.

Because a DC charger is a significant investment, uptime matters. Remote monitoring flags faults as they happen, and a service plan with scheduled preventive maintenance keeps fans, filters and connectors in good order. Our maintenance and support service covers both, with response times agreed up front.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Speak with StrataCharge by phone, WhatsApp or email.

How long does a 60 kW charger take to charge a car?

It depends on the car's battery size and the maximum DC rate it accepts. As a rough guide, a 60 kW charger can add [X] km of range in [X] minutes for a typical compact EV.

Does a 60 kW charger need a new electricity supply?

Many sites need a supply upgrade, but some have enough spare capacity. Our site assessment checks your existing supply and transformer before we quote.

Can two vehicles charge at once?

Simultaneous charging and how power is shared between outlets are [TBC from datasheet] for this model. We confirm this when the final hardware is selected.

Can the public pay to use it?

Yes. With an OCPP payment platform, drivers can pay by app, QR code or an optional card terminal, and you set the tariff.

What maintenance does a DC charger need?

DC units have fans, filters and high-power components, so they need regular preventive maintenance. We offer service plans with remote monitoring and scheduled site visits.
